DCP students study abroad in China Architecture professors Hui Zou and Albertus Wang led a group of students to Chongqing, China, this summer for a joint urban-design studio. The studio explored the urban renewal of the historical site "18 Steps" (Shiba Ti) in the downtown of Chongqing by the Yangtze River. (Photo courtesy of Minh Phan)
A Wild Ride: Architecture seniors gathered a few days before commencement to take some group shots before graduating. Newest alumni: DCP graduates walk across the stage The pool of DCP alumni just got a little bit bigger. The College of Design, Construction, and Planning held its spring commencement on April 30 at 3 p.m. at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, where more than 250 graduates walked across the stage. Alan L. Boeckmann, who held the post of chairman and chief executive officer of Fluor Corporation from February 2002 through February 2011, gave the commencement address, first noting that the DCP graduates have come "through a rigorous and very demanding curriculum" and "had the benefit of a truly world-class program here with a wonderful heritage." Boeckmann went on to reveal his "eight practical rules for success":
DCP mourns the loss of Col. and Mrs. Witters The College of Design, Construction and Planning is saddened by the loss of Colonel Art and Beverley Witters, who established the Arthur G. and Beverley A. Witters Competition in 1993. Col. and Mrs. Witters were married for more than 68 years and both passed away recently within two months of each other. Each year, the Witters Competition brings together students from various disciplines within the built environment to provide a real-world experience in a way that promotes collaboration. Col. and Mrs. Witters' generosity has allowed many of our students this unique opportunity and will provide the same experience for many more students in the future.
Landscape architecture doctoral student Meredith Leigh, Bill Baker, LAE 1964, and Tina Gurucharri, associate professor and chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture, attend the 2011 FLASLA Annual Conference and Expo on July 15, at the Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla. At the convention, Leigh discussed how she processed the work of the firm of Wallis-Baker for the archives at the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries. Faculty books Dr. Hui Zou, associate professor at the School of Architecture, has written a new book titled "A Jesuit Garden in Beijing and Early Modern Chinese Culture," released by The Purdue University Press. |
