The College of Design, Construction and Planning is saddened by the loss of Professor Emeritus Bernard "Bernie" Voichysonk, who passed away the morning of Nov. 24 at age 81. For 43 years, Professor Voichysonk was guide, mentor and provocateur to thousands of students in architectural design studios at DCP's School of Architecture. Voichysonk began his teaching career at UF in 1959 when he became the design studio coordinator for the School of Architecture's undergraduate design curriculum. In that role, he mentored younger faculty and helped establish a design education program that has been recognized throughout the country. Voichysonk also established an international travel program at the School of Architecture while visiting the Yucatan Peninsula to study Pre-Columbian architecture. Later, he made significant contributions to the school's VIA travel program in the Veneto region of Italy. In addition to his teaching career, Voichysonk was a painter and his work is held in numerous private collections. A memorial service will be held late Spring or early Fall 2013. Do you remember Bernard "Bernie" Voichysonk or his work? > Visit the Facebook page "Professor Bernard Voichysonk – UF SoA Legend" which contains loving comments from his many students.

Junior and senior interior design students, led by assistant professors Marty Hylton, Candy Carmel-Gilfilen and Nichole Campbell, worked with the Rinker School to submit ideas on improving Rinker Hall's lobby and student lounge. The projects were judged by Robert Ries, school director and associate professor, and Richard Smailes, director of undergraduate studies and senior lecturer. This was a group project of juniors and seniors with less than five days to complete. Team #5 submitted the overall best project. Congratulations to Nicole Lazar, Genesis Martinez, Juliana Mills, Katharina Fast, Sabryna Lyn and Rachel Mathis. |
