Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning! During this Thanksgiving season, we would like to thank you for your support throughout the years and all you have done to help make DCP one of the premier design, construction and planning colleges in the country. In addition, we gratefully acknowledge our donors, whose gifts continue to have a measurable impact on our students, faculty and programs: DCP would also like to thank those whose support continues to make a difference in our college, including those who volunteer their time to serve on our advisory boards. BCN Construction Hall of Fame On Nov. 9, James H. Pugh, Jr., BCN 1963, was inducted into the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction Hall of Fame. While at UF, Pugh was active in Student Government, Commander of the Army ROTC and inducted into Florida Blue Key Honorary. His first construction job was as an estimator for Manual Builders in Orlando. In 1970, he formed Epoch Properties, and in the 43 years, has developed hotels, timeshares and 37,000 rental apartments from California to Virginia. Pugh’s company is annually listed as one of the Giants of Housing in the U.S. Some of Pugh's community involvement includes Chairman of Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts, Board of Oversight for the Bob Graham Center for Public Service at UF, member of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board, Board of Trustees for the Orlando Museum of Art, Chairman of the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority, President of the Orlando Utilities Commission, Chairman of the Investment Advisory Council for the Florida State Board of Administration and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Atlantic Center for the Arts. The Rinker School established the Construction Hall of Fame Award in 1980 to recognize the accomplishments of those distinguished leaders who have made a difference in our industry, the community and UF throughout their careers in construction. The inductees' names will be displayed on the "Hall of Fame Wall" in the school. 2014 DCP Research Showcase "Collaborative Community Initiatives" DCP's annual research showcase is an opportunity to hear from DCP faculty about research findings and new ideas that are driving our fields. The showcase includes faculty presentations and panel discussions highlighting the ways planning, design and construction professionals collaborate to optimize success. DCP Career Fair Saturday, February 1 Looking to hire interns and entry-level professionals? DCP's career fair provides the opportunity to meet and interview students in the following disciplines: Architecture, Historic Preservation, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Sustainability and the Built Environment, and Urban and Regional Planning. Dean Silver recognized with ACSP Martin Meyerson Award Dean Silver with Chuck Connerly, President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, who presented the ACSP award on November 15, 2013. Dean Christopher Silver was selected to receive the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning Martin Meyerson Award for Distinguished Leadership in Higher Education. The award was presented to Dean Silver during the biennial ACSP Administrators Conference in Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 14-16. The award recognizes sustained contributions in academic administration by an urban/regional planning scholar/educator that have led to significant national and/or international impacts on higher education. Nominations come from faculty or administrators at ACSP-member schools and must include a nomination letter that states the ways in which the nominee has enhanced higher education in the U.S. and/or beyond through his or her administrative work. Roy Graham receives the James Marston The National Council for Preservation Education is honoring Roy Eugene Graham, FAIA, with the prestigious James Marston Fitch Award. The award recognizes individuals who have contributed substantially to the advancement of historic preservation education in the United States and for outstanding achievements. Graham joined UF in 2003 and served as professor and director of the Historic Preservation Program until 2011. He holds advanced degrees in architecture, engineering and architectural history, and has more than 30 years of teaching experience and international practice. Center for Architecture Sarasota receives donation for UF CityLab-Sarasota Pictured: Martin Gold, SoA director, Vishaan Chakrabarti, Marc Holliday Professor of Real Estate and Director of the Real Estate Development program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University, and Guy Peterson, BDes 1976 and MArch 1978, UF SoA adjunct professor and President of Guy Peterson OFA, Inc. In October, the newly formed non-profit Center for Architecture Sarasota (CFAS) hosted an inaugural weekend of events. During a private reception held at The Spencer House, designed by Guy Peterson Office of Architecture, CFAS received a donation, which will be used to restore the future home of both CFAS and UF CityLab-Sarasota. UF CityLab-Sarasota was developed through collaboration among the UF School of Architecture, Sarasota County and the CFAS. The CFAS works to provide a sustainable platform for the UF CityLab-Sarasota graduate studies in architecture program. |
