UF Women Reception in Jacksonville
A wonderful evening focusing on the University of Florida was enjoyed by 25 dynamic Jacksonville women on September 23 in the home of UFW co-chair, Beth McCague! Fascinating and inspiring talks were given by Dr. Nancy Mendenhall, medical director, UF's Proton Therapy Institute; First Lady Chris Machen; and host Beth McCague. Additionally, UF Women membership forms and dates for the inaugural UFW leadership campus event (April 14-16, 2011) were rolled out by Beth. Please look for more information on both in this newsletter and, most importantly, join us in making a difference in our university! UF Women Membership Now Available We hope you've enjoyed the first two UF Women newsletters as much as we've enjoyed bringing them to you. Our group continues to hold regional events where groups of women come together for informative briefings from other UF Women and discuss issues that are important to them. The feedback we've received from participants is exciting and inspiring. UF Women Entrepreneurs We don't like to brag – well, maybe just a little - but we're really proud of our UF Women entrepreneurs. Click on the links to learn more about the admirable accomplishments of two of our UF Women. If you have your own story to tell, we'd love to hear it. Please tell us your story.
All Access Pass: UF Women's Inaugural Leadership Event All Access Pass is UF Women's inaugural leadership event. It is designed to help more women become engaged with the University of Florida and foster connections between alumnae and friends and the University's faculty, students and programs.
UF's Endowment As you may know, UF has a unique endowment spending policy. This allows us to be more nimble than comparable endowments. That, combined with our chosen asset allocations and risk assessments have served us well. Since 2004 UFICO (the University's investment company) has been managing the endowment, other Foundation assets as well as other University assets. They have done a terrific job. In 2008-2009 when the average higher education endowments lost between 25-35%, UFF's endowment lost only - 18.9%. This has allowed us to recover more quickly than others. This year the endowment pool earned a healthy 10.2%. See below for the June 30, 2010 quarterly report. Click here for the June 30, 2010 quarterly report. News from UF Shands Cancer Center On Nov. 12, the UF Shands Cancer Center will present an overview of the cancer program and recent advancements in research, technology, and patient care, to a gathering of friends of UF and Shands. We invite you to learn more about this important statewide resource and to consider becoming involved as an advocate on the Cancer Center "Leadership Council" or a supportive member of the "Circle of Friends." This is not a fundraising event, but an opportunity to increase awareness and build relationships that touch and change lives.
