Recent Events UF in Bloom — Second Annual All Eighty-five women attended this year's UF Women symposium, reconnecting with old friends and making plenty of new ones. The weekend started with a sneak peek of the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art's new David A. Cofrin Asian Art Wing, which opened to the public a week later. The guests enjoyed hearing from UF faculty and students from the Levin College of Law's Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Clinic and the director of the Arts and Medicine program at Shands. A panel of UF experts discussed innovations in breast cancer prevention, management and treatment. UF alumna Dee Dee Ricks (third photo), the keynote speaker at lunch, gave a moving presentation on her philanthropy work for breast cancer patients. UF Women's mission is to help women connect with each other personally and provide leadership and support to the university in their areas of interest. The Annual All Access Pass symposium is an opportunity for women to engage with others who share the same drive and passion for the University of Florida. By all accounts, this year's event was a smashing success! Greater Gators: Alumnae of Distinction We are pleased to bring you the accomplishments of some of our UF Women.
UF News A New Weapon Against West Nile Virus Empowering Young Gators The UF Young Entrepreneurs for Leadership & Sustainability summer program gives college-bound high school students the opportunity to live, work, eat and play on the campus of the University of Florida for five weeks each summer while learning about entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. The program aims to inspire students to solve social problems and practice sustainability, empowering them to become leaders and change makers. Over the past five summers, 150 students completed 15,415 hours of community service, with a value of $329,264, and 30 percent of these students launched a business, organization or club the following year.
