Welcome to the CVM e-news for July 2006

COMING SOON

Aloha!  The college will host an alumni reception during the AVMA conference July 15-19, 2006, Honolulu, Hawaii. The Alumni Reception is scheduled for Sunday, July 16 at 6:30 PM in the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki, Harbor View Suite.  If you are going to AVMA, stop by and visit with your UF friends and faculty.  For more information, contact Genevieve Mendoza at perezg@mail.vetmed.ufl.edu or 352-392-4700 x5010.

Florida Veterinary Medical Association 77th annual conference is scheduled for September 8-10, 2006 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.  UF CVM will host an alumni reception during the conference.  More information will follow.

Pre-Game Tail-Gate Gatherings

The college has designated a location for pre-game tail-gate gatherings on our campus. The pre-game tail-gate gatherings may be held in the blue decal parking lot behind the Veterinary Academic Building. There is space available for shade tents, grills, tables, and also access to restrooms in the VAB. More information to come*.Football season starts Sept. 2.

The University of Florida Homecoming Celebration is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7.  The Gators take on the LSU Tigers in an exciting gridiron “Swamp fest.”  The college will have Gator Growl and football game tickets available for purchase in August.  We will also have our annual pre-game meal and celebration.  We were unable to secure a block of rooms but will keep trying.  Hotel rooms are very limited so make your reservation today.  See you in October!

Team VetMed rides the Horse Farm Hundred on Sunday, October 22, 2006.  Start training to ride with Dr. Jim Thompson.

College News

This week, the College of Veterinary Medicine hosted five candidates for the dean’s position.  The top five candidates include:

  • Dr. Steve Sundlof, currently with the US Food and Drug Administration, Center for Veterinary Medicine;
  • Dr. Neil Olson, currently with North Carolina State University, College of Veterinary Medicine;
  • Dr. Glen Hoffsis, currently with The Iams Company and former dean of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine;
  • Dr. Lisa Nolan, currently at Iowa State University, Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine; and
  • Dr. Alicia Bertone, currently with The Ohio State University, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine announces a search committee meeting Monday, July 10, 2006, 8-11 a.m. in the Veterinary Academic Building.

This public meeting’s purpose is to determine candidates to recommend to the Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Senior Vice President of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Reunion plans are in the works for Class of 1986 and 1996.  Class of 1982, your silver anniversary awaits you next year.
