UF College of Design, Construction & Planning Perspective Newsletter
   OCTOBER 2011

At the College of Design, Construction and Planning, we take Pride in Place. We believe not only in educating future designers, contractors and planners in the fundamentals of their respective professions, but also in instilling a sense of pride for the buildings and environments they design and build. We begin by respecting our own space, the buildings where we work, teach, create, research, present and learn.

Remember your time at UF. For some, you spent most of that time in the Architecture Building. Do you remember the spray paint on the floors and ceilings? The condition of the desks? The equipment available to you for building models and designing projects?

It's time for renewal and the transformation has already begun. The creation of a spray booth, the addition of state-of-the-art equipment and technology and the modification of the studio walls to increase natural lighting – all of these improvements translate into innovative design solutions and better opportunities for our faculty and students.

We need your support to take this renovation to the next level. To view the opportunities, please visit our Pride in Place webpage.

For more information or to make a gift, please contact Lynne Capece, DCP Director of Development.

DCP students take Pride in Place

A group of students from the Studio Culture Committee worked this summer to make improvements to the college, including the change above – painting the hallways of the second floor of Fine Arts C. The initiative was led by DCP students Jose Cruz and Adam Mahardy.

Studio: Phase II

The view just keeps getting better.

Last year, we reported the college's efforts to open up the north walls of 11 studios to a view of the Architecture Building's atrium by replacing the concrete walls with glass. DCP has now completed the second phase of this renovation – replacing 14 additional studio walls with glass.

LAE students receive national award

The college is proud to announce that four DCP students are the recipients of a 2011 American Society of Landscape Architects National Honor Award in the Communication Category for their Landscape Invocation Blog.

The four LAE students, Ben Boyd, Marco Garcia, William Ramhold and James Wheeler, designed a website that "utilizes current event coverage, park, book, and designer reviews, global mapping of projects, as well as editorials to uniquely convey information about the growing profession of landscape architecture in a method that is both interactive and dynamic."

The group's faculty advisor was Terry Schnadelbach, landscape architecture professor.
