School of Architecture NAAB Accreditation The UF School of Architecture hosted an accreditation team visit in February that was a huge success. The SoA met all of the Student Performance Criteria and were distinguished in five of the 32 categories. Preparation for the visit required the assistance of many faculty, staff, alumni and students. Thank you to everyone who helped and supported SoA's NAAB Accreditation! Special thanks to the members of the Accreditation Committee: Martin Gold, Nancy Clark, Bradley Walters, Stephen Belton, Lisa Huang, Mark McGlothlin and John Maze; staff members Mary Kramer, Brenda Barefield, Katie Matckie, and AIAS President Sarah Glass. Historic Preservation Program presents Beinecke-Reeves Distinguished DCP Historic Preservation Program Director Marty Hylton, Dade Heritage Trust Founder Dolly MacIntyre, Dade Heritage Trust CEO Becky Roper Matkov and Dade Heritage Trust former President Judy Pruitt. The DCP Historic Preservation Program has honored Dade Heritage Trust with the Beinecke-Reeves Distinguished Achievement Award in Historic Preservation. The award was presented at a reception at UF in February. The annual award recognizes an individual or group with a connection to the state of Florida who exemplifies the spirit of historic preservation and has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the field. The award is named in honor of the late Walter Beinecke Jr., and UF professor emeritus F. Blair Reeves, both of whom were recipients of the top national honor in the field of historic preservation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation Crowninshield Award. At the reception, Program Director Marty Hylton cited the many accomplishments of Dade Heritage Trust since its founding as a nonprofit in 1972. These accomplishments include Dade Heritage Trust's advocacy battles to save the Miami Circle, the Freedom Tower, the Miami Marine Stadium and the Miami Herald Building. Urban Design Studio students DCP alumni Christina Lathrop, MLA 2012, Partner with Dix Lathrop Associates and Javier Omana, MAURP 1982, Vice President of CPH Engineers, recently joined landscape architecture students in an all-day charrette exploring transportation-oriented development proposals for the Longwood Station district in Orlando. According to LAE student Johan Bueno, "having someone whose life is filled with codes and regulations tell us that our sometimes outlandish ideas are valid is the best feeling in the world." > Read the full story on DCP's website BCN's Fire and Emergency School In June 2012, the Rinker School's Fire and Emergency Services program, in partnership with the Shands critical care transport program known as ShandsCair, introduced the Critical Care Paramedic training program. Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Raymond Issa, Derek Hunt and FES Program Administrator Lorie Drewke, the University of Florida now stands as only the second university in the nation to provide this certification course. Throughout the month of December 2012, 20 students participated in the 16-day, high-intensity course taught by noted physicians. |
