UF Team wins EPA's first
Campus RainWorks Challenge
The UF Team was recognized as the first prize winner of the EPA's inaugural Campus RainWorks Challenge in the large institution category. The challenge, which had submissions from 218 teams from 42 states, was created to inspire the next generation of landscape architects, planners and engineers to develop innovative green infrastructure systems that reduce stormwater pollution and support sustainable communities.
The UF team brought together 12 students in landscape architecture, environmental engineering, and agricultural and biological engineering.

IND alum named one of UF's Outstanding Alumni
DCP graduate Jennifer Haney, IND 2007, is a recipient of the University of Florida's Outstanding Young Alumni Award. The award, established by UF's Alumni Association, recognizes alumni ages 35 or younger who have distinguished themselves in their profession and community.
Since graduating from DCP in 2007, Haney moved to New York City and began her career at HLW, a well-established firm that focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to design that includes architecture, interior design, engineering, planning and consulting. Haney has recently been recognized for her work as the lead interior designer on the corporate headquarters project for JetBlue in Long Island, NY. The successful JetBlue project was featured on the cover of the May 2012 issue of Interior Design.

LAE celebrates 64 years of
Landscape Architecture
The Department of Landscape Architecture celebrated Professor Lester Linscott's retirement after 33 years of service at UF and Professor Emeritus Herrick Smith who received the ASLA Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal Award. Together the two professors have worked 64 years in the landscape architecture profession in Florida.
Herrick Smith, FASLA, received the 2012 American Society of Landscape Architects Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal Award. Herrick's distinguished service to the profession and to UF has been crucial for landscape architecture in Florida. His legacy to students and to assisting in the establishment of six other university programs in landscape architecture is testament to his sustained excellence.
Les Linscott is retiring after 37 years of dedication to the profession and for 33 years of service to UF and education of students in landscape architecture. His mentoring and inimitable style has inspired students and will be fondly remembered.

URP master's student wins
WTS International Scholarship
Amy Cavaretta, MAURP 2013, recently won the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) South Florida Scholarship. After winning this award, Cavaretta was nominated by the South Florida Chapter for the WTS International Scholarship and won. She received the Helene Overly Graduate Scholarship amongst candidates from around the world.
Cavaretta plans to move to Washington, D.C. to begin a career in federal transportation and infrastructure policy.

HP student to intern
in Paris this summer |
Crystal Gates, MHP 2013, was selected for an internship with the World Heritage Unit of the ICOMOS Secretariat in Paris, France.
The US/ICOMOS International Exchange Program internships are geared toward individuals who are in their last year of a relevant graduate program or working 1-3 years in a professional field. The intern selection process is highly competitive and is based on skill, demonstrated commitment to historic preservation, previous experience and academic concentration in the field as well as the ability to represent the country in an exchange program.
Gates will begin her internship this summer with orientation in Washington, D.C. After living in Paris for more than two months, she will return to Washington, D.C. to give a final presentation. |

Aaron Davis, BLA 2007, was married on March 16 in Northern Ireland. Aaron and his wife Michele met in Beijing, China during an international position he held with the Florida-based Landscape Architecture practice EDSA in 2007. They currently live and work in London. Aaron now works as an Urban Designer for Prince Charles on projects in Asia, Africa and the Americas.

10 years of success
One of New Haven, Connecticut's top architecture firms, Pirie Associates Architects, has changed its name and is celebrating ten years of success. Laura Pirie, BDes 1985, is the firm's founder and active principal. Pirie Turlington Architects, LLC is now Pirie Associates Architects, LLC. The firm's name change and the evolution of its internal structure recognizes the promotion to Associate of seasoned Project Managers Brady Stone and Paul S. Butkus. The timing of the transition aligns with the firm's 10th year of creating inspiring built environments that enhance the quality of people's lives and work. Licensed in Conn., Mass. and N.Y., the firm's design portfolio includes a number of residential, commercial, institutional, landscape and urban projects.
