We have a section on our Alumni Affairs Web page called “Tell us what you are doing.” We are interested in hearing about your present practice, life and more. We have posted many replies on our Web site and have enjoyed your comments.

Dr. Jeff Godwin, ’80, was named president-elect of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society at the March annual conference.

Dr. Tim Lassett, ’82, competed in the American Taekwondo Assn. World Championships in Little Rock, Arkansas and became the world champion in forms for 1st degree black-belt men age 50-59 for 2006-2007. Lassett also competed in the 2nd-3rd degree ring and took 2nd place in forms and 3rd place in sparring at the first tournament for 2007-2008. Lassett trains with UF Gators Laura and David Kowkabany who own Kowkabany’s Family Taekwondo Center in Tampa. Congratulations!

Dr. Don Beebe, ’93, is a Diplomate with the American Veterinary Dental College, Apex Dog and Cat Dentistry located at Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado.

Dr. Wendy Kozak, ’97, had a new baby, Kasey Jeanne, on April 1, 2007. Kozka shared, “can’t imagine life without her now.”

Dr. Clare Deming, ’01, currently practices emergency medicine at North Jersey Veterinary Emergency Services in Lyndhurst, NJ. She also provides relief services to several local practices. In her free time, she can be found fencing, flying around the northeast in a single-engine Cessna or scuba diving off the Jersey Shore.

Dr. Nina Morusiewicz-Krajewski, ‘02, had a new baby, Daniel Slawek, on March 31, 2007. Nina, husband Mike, and baby are doing fine.

Dr. Liberty Getman, ’03, practices large animal medicine at the New Bolton Center at Penn.

Dr. Heather Caplan, ’06, accepted an associate’s position at Virginia Equine in Richmond and started in July.

Dr. Jenna Ashton, ’07, resides in Denver, CO.

Dr. Jodi Lynn D’Amico, ’07, joined a veterinary practice in Thomasville, Georgia.

Dr. Johanna Elfenbein, resides in Athens, Georgia.

Dr. Shale Kenney, ‘07, has begun her internship at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts.

Dr. Cathy Meeks, ’07, has joined Florida Veterinary Specialists and lives in Ocala.

Dr. Kerry Mitton, ’07, now resides in Massachusetts.

Dr. Courtney Riley, ’07, joined Dr. Carlos Campos, ’02, practice and lives in New Port Richey.

Welcome Class of 2011
We hardly said good-bye to the Class of 2007, and are gearing up for the incoming freshmen – the Class of 2011. The college had 896 applications and has admitted 88 students. Of those, 72 are Florida residents. All 88 students have BA/BS degrees while 11 students also hold Master’s degrees. Classes begin August 20, 2007.

Here come the Gators!
Gator football kicks off Sept. 1 with the Gators taking on Western Kentucky. The UF Homecoming game is Nov. 3 against Vanderbilt. To stay up-to-date on Gator Sports, visit www.gatorzone.com.

There’s no place like home…
The College of Veterinary Medicine welcomes our new residents and interns for the 2007-2008 year. Several new residents include CVM alumni:

FVMA Conference
The Florida Veterinary Medical Association 78th Annual Conference September 7 & 8, 2007, Buena Vista Palace Resort & Spa, Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Early registration closes September 1, 2007.

The UF College of Veterinary Medicine will host an alumni reception on Saturday, September 8, 2007, from 6-8 PM in the Cloister Ballroom. The UF CVM Class of 1997 will host an alumni reunion prior to the alumni reception. See conference program for additional information.

FAEP Conference
The Florida Association of Equine Practitioners Conference is scheduled for September 27-30, 2007 at Atlantis, Bahamas. Registration information is available at www.faep.net. The UF College of Veterinary Medicine will host an alumni breakfast on Sunday, September 30 for those who attended the conference. More information will be available later.

Hospital sponsors two training programs for vet techs and receptionists
The UF Veterinary Medical Center is sponsoring a “Veterinary Receptionist Training Day” and a “Veterinary Technician Program” on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Hilton UF Conference Center. For registration information, visit the Division of Continuing Education Web site.

[10 Years 1000 Miles - Horse Farm Hundred logo]Start training for the Horse Farm Hundred – 10 years and 1,000 miles
Team VetMed is getting ready for the October Horse Farm Hundred ride. Training schedules are posted as well as weekly rides and other training activities.

We ask that each Team VetMed rider raise $100 in sponsorships. In return, those riders will receive a custom-designed Team VetMed jersey. This year’s jersey is the anniversary jersey – 10 years/1000 miles.  All the monies raised go the Horse Farm Hundred Scholarship fund.  This fund has awarded 12 scholarships since its inception in 2000.  Rider sponsorship forms are available on the Team VetMed Web site.

UF Homecoming Weekend 2007 –Nation of Champions
The UF Homecoming Weekend 2007 is scheduled for November 2 & 3, 2007. The Gators take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in The Swamp.

Gator Growl 2007The CVM will have limited football tickets, Gator Growl tickets, and celebration meal tickets available for sale to our alumni.  We have also secured room blocks at 3 Gainesville hotels for our out-of-towners. CVM Homecoming registration begins August 20 on the alumni affairs website. Submit on-line or fax your registration forms in to register. Registration closes October 12, 2007.

The Class of 1997 is planning a 10-year reunion during FVMA 2007. For more information, contact Cherry Douglas or Joell Sheahan.

The Class Representatives for 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003 should start talking about class reunions for 2008.

Tailgate with the Gator Nation
If you are a member of the UF Alumni Association, you are invited to attend the pre-game Gator Nation Tailgates at Emerson Alumni Hall for home games. The fun starts 3 hours prior to kickoff of all home games and will feature food and beverages for sale, family fun, special guest appearances and big screen TV. The only way to take part in this for FREE, is become a UF Alumni Association member. (Non-members are charged admission)

All away game Gator Nation Tailgates are free and open to all Gators. Visit with Albert, the UF cheerleaders and the rest of the Gator Nation 3 hours prior to kickoff at every away game.

Inaugural Florida/Georgia Pep Rally
Will you be in Jacksonville for the 2007 Florida vs. Georgia football classic on October 27? If so, make plans to join the Gator Nation at the first ever Florida/ Georgia Pep Rally. Located just outside the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium at the baseball grounds of Jacksonville, this pep rally will have everything you need to get pumped up before the game.

Gates open 3 hours prior to kickoff with the pep rally starting 2 hours prior to kickoff. UF Alumni Association members are free, while non-members are charged $5 per person at the gate.

Gator MerchandiseThe five starters on Florida's back-to-back national championship basketball teams, plus sixth-man Chris Richard, have become co-signers on a limited number of commemorative basketballs. Only 200 of the balls were signed by all six players and fewer than 100 remain available to the general public. There is a limit of two basketballs per customer. In addition to the basketballs, the players have signed a limited number of the Michael Montgomery art prints depicting the Gators' dual national championships. There is a limit of one print per customer. Framed prints are also available, but allow three weeks for shipping of framed print orders.
